We are extremely excited to share the great news that Erie FCU's very own, Liliya Steblak, Lending QC Specialist, was honored today by the St. Martin Center with the “BRIGHTEST STAR AWARD” at its annual Shining Stars Awards luncheon! The St. Martin Center’s “Shining Stars program” presents the prestigious “Brightest Star Award” to an individual(s) or organization each year who make the biggest impact. Liliya was lauded by St. Martin Center, CEO, David Gonzales for her passion and dedication as a Shining Stars volunteer.
At the awards luncheon, Liliya was presented a plaque and shared her personal story of when her family was helped by the St. Martin Center. When she was 7 years old, Liliya and her family moved to America from Ukraine in 2005 with literally nothing. One of the programs that made a mark on the Steblak family was the Shining Stars Gift Program which helps to provide Christmas gifts to thousands of children in the Erie area each holiday.
Liliya fondly recalled, for those in attendance, that period of her life and the impact programs like Shining Stars had with her and her family. In her speech, she thanked her parents who, in her words, had the courage to ask for help and stated, “As a volunteer now, I feel like I am truly making a difference”. Reflecting on that period of her life, she was very thankful to now have the opportunity to volunteer and serve the community and those who “ask for help”.
In thanking Erie FCU for allowing her to give of her time, she said, “People helping people is the credit union’s philosophy and I love the fact that we stand by that and serve our community”. Liliya ended the ceremony with one thought; “I was a shining star once and today I stand before you as proof that things like this do make a difference. I am honored to be a volunteer, grateful to God and everyone that helped me make a full circle!”
Erie FCU is very proud of Liliya and would like to congratulate her on receiving this prestigious honor! Her story and acts of volunteerism are a true inspiration to all!
